Competition #6 - buddy the designer

Hi! This time I'll find time to participate. I might shorten the handle if I won't fit within 250 tris.
hi-res:

Greets, good luck to all.

I like it, very nice. Looks like a solid design. Definitly has alot of potential for cool texturing work...

I'm curious Buddy, are those screws holding the axe head on ? If so maybe make them look more like nails, so as to fit the time period. If they are nails then just ignore my post. Other than that I'd say your set to get going on the lowpoly version.

Good point bighoss, I completly forgot they didn't had stuff like that in medieval (or just didn't paid too much attention to it) Thanks for tip, I will change 'em to nails.

i think you are gonna run into some problems with this design. Much if it is based on sillhouette rather than detail within the form. Remember you only have 240 polygons so stuff will look pretty boxy. A normalmap cant help you with the shape, just add detail within it.

The highpoly looks good but doesnt have that much interesting surface information that would transfer well into a normal map. Look at stefan morrels thread for example.

Yeah, I will shorten the handle (to have better curves on axe and the handle itself) and then put hipoly to Z for some details.

Well, I'm changing design, which somewhat means I have to redo whole thing (I textured previous one but results didn't satisfacted me completly). Should be better this time.

Looks solid, as everyone said...but the only thing I can crit is that you need a line defining the blade. Hmm hope that makes sense....other then that its good to me.
