Well I didn't know if I was gonna post any of this, but I started a crate of my own. I'm still pretty noobish when it comes to modeling. Anyway here is my higher poly version of my crate. Textures, and everything are still in the works.



Like I said I'm still learning, so I'm not sure if I'll finish this in time for the end of the contest.

Looks like a nuke type container, is the thing on top supposed to be a keypad? Wireframe would be nice also, as well as the digits.

Yep the top thing is a keypad. I'm not gonna worry about modeling in the keys, because I figured I'd just texture them in.

Well I really didn't like how the crate was turning out. So I changed it significantly. I've been working on the texture, but until I can come up with a good render I'll just post this one.

Interesting Idea for sure. Not much storage room, although a good back story could cover that.

Ah well my idea was to have the two sides contain something like nuclear rods or something. So it's actually go two compartments. Was just something I thought of spur of the moment, when I was redoing the model.

Well what I have done with the texture is nothing great, but I'm still learning so I guess I can only get better at it. It's taken me the whole day to get as far as I have with it. There's maybe 12 or more hours involved in this texture, but it's the best I can do at the moment, anyway enough rambling here it is. Crits are very welcome. I've still got to add the spec map, and maybe a normal map.

As I said - you really need to define some areas - the most noticable is that keypad, I understand it's WIP but might as well try to help: I don't see the need for the extrusion when you can't really see it because they skin just eats up any defined corners - try to bring out your edges or changte teh colours slightly so that you can tell there is an extrustion - otherwise you could have just done it with a normal map

dirty up the edges to define it a little better, kind of giving it the illusion of chamfer.
