The Ultimate Crate - Specifications & Rules

Theme

It's time for you to redefine the most used level asset from the FPS world, the Crate! Create the hottest crate possible while keeping a few things in mind: The crate needs to have all sides and will be judged as if it was a piece which were to be put in a First Person Shooter (such as Half Life 2, where they can be moved, flipped, thrown due to Ragdoll effects).

Prizes

1st Place will win anAnnual Subscription (12 issues!) to 3DCreative Magazine

Every
Contestant
which submits a final entry will get a free electronic issue of the 3DCreative Magazine (January 2007 Edition). Please note that to qualify as a contestant your entry must be a complete piece. Partially completed, work in progress or rushed work does not qualify and as a result will not be eligible. Game-Artist.Net & Zoo Publishing have full discretion in this matter.

Specifications

Maximum Triangles -

200

Maximum Textures
512 x 512 Diffuse
512 x 512 Specular (optional)

Submission Guidelines

Entry Deadline is the End of Sunday the 21st of January GMT +-0 as time zone.

Work in Progress should be posted by yourself in a seperate thread named by using the prefix "Competition #5" and your Username as thread title, i.e. "Competition #5 - requiem2d". This is not required, but if you are working with complex normal maps or detailed textures, you may want to receive some advice before submitting.

Final Submissions should be posted by yourself in the thread titled "Competition #5 The Ultimate Crate - Submissions". Please note that to be able to submit, your entry must be a complete piece. Partially completed, work in progress or rushed work does not qualify and as a result will not be eligible. Game-Artist.Net & Zoo Publishing have full discretion in this matter.

Provide the following -
  • Beatuy Render of Final Piece 800x600 (you will want to show your piece twice on the same render so that we can see all sides)
  • Link to Wireframe of Final Piece 800x600
  • Links to all texture sheets used (original size)
  • E-mail Address to be used if you are to win any of the prizes
Only your beauty render should be displayed in your post within the submissions thread, all other images linked to. This is so that the thread remains organized. Failure to meet the above or incorrectly post your submission will be brought to your notice a single time, if the issue has not been fixed by the contest deadline, the entry will be eliminated.

Game-Artist.net reserves the right to amend any of the above during the course of the Contest.

Good luck to all !

The spec.s confuse me a bit - the 1024X1024 texture suggests quite a large crate model, but there's only 200 polys? There's small crates in DoD:S that are about 300.

Does it have to be a generic crate shape? Or at least something resembling a container?
