I know that since I'm on staff I can't technically compete but I too think I'll throw my hat in just for fun. I'm going to most likely be doing a minigun up. Should be fun. I have some ideas for the technical bits of the minigun that I'd replace with alternative technologies. I think instead of the barrels crank being mechanical moving parts it'd be interesting to replace it with a magnetic powered propulsion system. Kind of like a repulsion used in order to spin up the barrels. Have some other bits like a venting system and sound diffuser for the setup as well. I got to see a minigun be fired up in person and they are definitely loud. Something like 400 dollars of ammo gone in less than 5 seconds and that's for cheaper ammo. I'll see what I can get done, have never created a weapon for 1st person view usage.

I've been working on my minigun...working on the high poly version first. The barrels assembly is pretty much as I want it right now. I do need to add the rear barrel housing vent covers that will fan open as the barrels spin up. The end piece of the center shaft will be a violet glowing light. Tonight I will model out the rotor assembly that the barrels seat into. As always it's a WIP and things may change but I'm pretty happy with the barrels assembly as is. Any comments or crits are welcome.

Update #2
Just another lil' update of where things are going with this. I have made new flash suppressors for the ends of the 5 barrels. They seem more meaty. Some other small changes here and there to what was shown before. Finished the forward rotor housing and barrels seating. Next thing I'm working on is the rear rotor housing and halo and begin work on the receiver of the minigun. Having a lot of fun with this. Here are two screen grabs from inside of 3D Studio Max 8.
