KING-TAHARKA: I really dig the concept. With the texturing you probably could've pushed it further. If you only have a 512 map you should really try to use every single bit of it. But a nice piece overall.

Sefiroth: Modeling looks alright, not much to say about that. The texturing however, there's so much wasted space. Basically same crit KING-TAHARKA got. With 1 512 texture you shoul really push it to it's limits. There's no excuse for the massive white parts in your texture...

dbsmith: Very nice concept and execution. This is the kind of thing we had in mind when we started the competition!

ploon: This could've been a much better piece imo, if you would've spend more tris on the environment. The face is just way to highpoly imo. A couple more rocks here and there would've made a big difference I think…

far: The belly of the boss really has to much wasted triangles. You can remove half the tris there. The texture has allot of wasted uv space, and with only a 512 texture that's unforgiving. A shame you used so much photo's in your texture as well.

BadgerPirate: Nice entry. Not much to crit on, only that it looks quite blurry in places. Maybe one small thing. The boss' texture looks very much like the background. Maybe a slightly darker/brighter value would've made the character pop more… But very nice overall!

zanman: The reason I only gave you a 2 for the model is because IMO you wasted quite some tris on the character (mainly on those air pipes), while you could've used those better for the environment. The texture looks fairly good, I especially like the eye/forehead, that's some nice texturing.

sachdev: The small creature looks great, solid concept, proper texture, it's all there. But you really ruined your entry with your environment imo. Where did the modeling and texturing skills go? Real shame man.

nikwing: Nice piece of work.I like the concept, and i can't really find anything to crit. Maybe one thing. The walls look very empty. You could've added more details there, like a door frame for example.

pardeep kumar: As with many entries, the idea is there but it lacks solid execution. Things that bother me the most are the big amount of wasted triangles, and unused texture space.

psychord: Lovely. The fact that you added lighting to your diffuse is a big plus imo. Texture looks a bit noisy at some places in the presentation (mainly at those tubes), but other than that, no crits! Nice one!

Magnel:Sausage with a chainsaw, interesting concept. But i hope you understand that the texturing and modeling needs allot more work. Thing is, when i look at the saucage face you painted, it really looks like it has potential, but the rest, well…

01alek: Great endresult. You have a very solid concept, and the execution was done very well, nice one!

3D-Tsuki: The thing that bothers me most about your entry is the big difference in style between your environment and your boss character. The rest looks fairly decent.

cox: This is by far my most favourite piece. Both the environment and the boss were properly designed and textured, in a coherent style! Very nice work.

fabiodan: Very unique boss design, I like that. It does look a bit lost in the scene though, the image just doesn't read good for some reason. Other than that, looks alright.

papertesseract: The texturing looks pretty much alright. The dirt doesn't always match with the rest of the texture, but the bright colors definitely work for me. Similar to fabiodans entry, it kinda reads hard. I honestly had to look for a minute, and concentrate to see how this was build up. Dno if that's the camera angle or the background, but that's something i'd change in future competitions...

JimmY-DigitaL:Great concept. I really dig the two characters. To bad you didn't put more focus on them in your presentation. Your wire shot looks better than your submitted image imo (presentation whise). The rock modeling under the castle looks a bit messy, but other than that, very nice piece!

Tom: imho, you spend to much time and efford on te army and the surrounding buildings, rather than on the boss monster. LowPolyZilla's jaw doesn't really convince me…

GAMERBOI: you definitely need to work on your skillset. While there are a few interesting bits in your texture, in general it's weak. Sorry.

xtremepenguin: The concept and environment doesn't really blow me away, you probably could've pushed that further. The texturing on the other hand, and especially the two textures of the boss character do have potential though.

jswanson: Interesting to see someone try a different style for once. Overal a nice concept, I like the colorsheme and presentation. Only thing that bothers me is his left arm. That doesn't make sense. A regular arm would've been better imho…

The composition of your presentation is working somewhat well too.

The only thing I could think of, while being as picky as possible could be, is that the edge definition of some metal parts might be a tad strong, and that the red glowing eyes comes out as a bit odd, as there is no info in that area other than a flat colour, I would prolly have tried to add in some more shape into it through the diffuse.

Also, the boss himself, he doesn't really instantly come off as "the big boss", but it's kind of working anyway.

Nevertheless though, you did a great job on this one, and I am really impressed.

Psychord: Clearly you did a good job in creating an interesting scene along with an interesting boss. Although what I consider could've lift this piece up a notch would've been more tiling/reuse of texture-space. As right now it's looking a bit pixelated , there also looks to be a slightly uneven distribution.

I mean, this is debatable really, since for a handheld console the resolution would be much smaller, and would perhaps not come off as lowres. So, I think it's a great scene, but looks a bit gritty and messy, and therefore it gets the second place for me.

Nikwing: I really like the cartoon vibe in this entry, it's interesting, and it got subtle details which I simply adore. My main problem with this scene however is:

1. the mix of texture-styles. Some parts look a bit more realistic and photo-referenced while other have a painted style.

2. The lack of shadows.

I think that the shadows are prolly the thing which lets this down the most, presentation-wise. But it's still a good scene, and you did do a good job indeed.

Special thanks go out to our judges - Stellan Johansson,Adam Fransson, and Jeroen Maton, and to our sponsor, Ballistic Publishing.

See you for our next competition!

And much thanks to judges for putting this together (and still giving me a score even though my last edit was a few minutes late )

congrats Cox, its truely a very nice piece.

I would like to give one piece of comment on the feedback that has been given on my work. For me it says ''There's no excuse for the massive white parts in your texture...'' I did that to show how the textures have been cut up, that it not used as one 512*512 map. The textures are at actual size and you will notice that the total resolution of the picture in the link is bigger because of the spacing I created between every map... . To late for that now anyway, but at least I know I shouldnt that anymore...

The contest was fun, I hope there will be more small contests in the future and that many will be participating again. I will try to be in it again if time is available.
