Competition #16 - Swift3D

hi all

I've been doing this competition over at cgsociety but it's all dried up over there.

I'm just gonna throw down what I have so far and all crits would be appreciated.

I've also made a start on the boss himself but it's not going so well so i'm going to sort it out a bit more before posting it up here.

It's starting to look unlikely that i'll make the deadline but i'll do my best, thanks for reading.

[edit]oops, the pic of the gun I posted was pre opimisation[/edit]

Yeah I've watched your stuff on cgsociety, I have to say that I'm looking forward to a western style boss. Have you ever seen the game Darkwatch, a little inspiration in there. I like the gun.

Keep it up.

Well, that was my experience. Not saying I underestimated the challenge, but I thought it would be slightly less time consuming. So in that way I thought it wasnt as easy as it seemed. That's a bit different from 'wasn't as easy as it should be'. Which can be a normal statement if you're experienced in creating low poly scenes. Am I making sense haha?

yeah I agree it was alot more work than I was expecting... I probably speant about 4-5ish hours on what I have now and i'm not even CLOSE to finishing ( barely started texturing the scene, still touching up the modeling of the boss etc.)

oh well, i'll just have to ttry harder next time...

This is one of the things I like about these low poly comps. They force me to try and manage my work around a time schedule, and plan ahead. The first comp I entered here at the site I chose to submit even though it was far from done in my mind. I probably shouldnt have done that back then - but what the hell, I learned from it.

The "army of small" comp I entered too, but university didnt allow me to have enough time to finish up my piece to an acceptable level.
So from these two "failed" attempts to submit something that I could live with, I learned to plan in extra hours than I though I needed and begin in good time. Ironic that I this time got the submission dates wrong in my head (thought it was the 9th - no idea why). So my entry was messy and I didnt check my links before posting my entry. fixed a broken link after the submissions were over, so now I'm probably getting disqualified due to that. Hehe, you live and you learn, so next time I'll be reminded to keep an eye on the end date and submit in good time

My two cents of all this ranting would be: you learn from this to the next one
