Thanks for all the great feedback. I do think much more attention will be paid to the placement of the chest, I think a platform would be good.
I dont think I want to reduce the chest in texture size. My thinking is I want a real level not just eye candy. I want the player to have the best experience and tha means the chest is something they would see up close as I am seeing the camera very movable. I actually modeled the entire chamber, but hid the faces that blocked the camera. (there are about 60 hidden faces which includes an entrance to the chamber. I am not sure if I will count these towards my final total as they are hidden, but I might) I will most likley add some other props. Maybe I am wrong and should just tailor it to the scene, but that seems kind of odd to me to make something that isnt realy playable. Same with the creature, the mouth will be closeset to you and I wanted extra detail. I am totaly saving some tris/alpha to make interesting mouth hairs. I still have 400+ tris to work with. The scenario is the payer walks into the room and there is no wyrm. He makes his way to the chest. Upon opening the chest, the Wyrm erupts from the ice. Sending chunks of ice all around. Maybe even blocking the oiriginal entrance - not shown. The wyrm would also be triggered if the player didnt open the chest and went around the central pillar or over the iced water. The exit will be impossible to access while the wyrm is alive. My map thinking so far: 1 @ 256x256 - Tresure, 2 @ 256x256 - Wyrm, 1 @ 128x128 - water tiling, 3 @ 128x128 ices tiled. Once agian thank you for your input. Very helpful.

Just a quick FYI - I had to move on to another project so I posted my final submission. I found it very difficult not having lighting and shadows to work with. I think this looked lots better with lighting. I had planned on rendering as the orignal submission stated, but that was changed to a screengrab. I was unable to proceed with a U3 import as I modeled this in Maya 2009 and there is no ActorX plug in for U3 compiled yet - at least as far as I can tell. Oh well part of the challenge. Thanks for all the comments, I really enjoyed the modeling challenge. Good luck to all the entries!

I'm glad you still had the follow through to finish your entry. I went to your site. It has a lot of awesome stuff that would have made good entries for this competition. Keep up the good work. Pariticpate in #17!
