Competition #15 - flatHead

Hi everyone. I've decided to enter the lowpoly competition too, here's my concept-in-progress:

It's called "The Hacker's Den", and is supposed to be the room of a particularly serious computer hacker. I'm planning to put a lot more stuff in the scene than I drew in the concept - extra tech toys and trash, empty pizza boxes, a discarded t-shirt here and there... I'd really like to capture the atmosphere of a dark, dirty room with bright sunlight peeking in from outside, and a big many-eyed monster computer at the center of it.

This is going to be my first real texturing exercise as well, so that's what I'm most worried about and would like everyone's C&C on. I'll probably try and get this into UE3 eventually.

Wish me luck

Nice concept and idea, although it would be interesting to be a bit more dramatic with the amount of electronical equipment and screens. Go all Serial Experiments Lain on it

Thanks for the kind words, guys.

Finally started modelling today. Trying to get a feel for the space and exploring which level of geometry detail I'm comfortable with, considering the 10K tris limit. Some of the little props (ahstray, xbox, power sockets) are already done and unwrapped.

@IchII3D: Thanks for the suggestion! I did check out Serial Experiments Lain, and it's got some pretty cool artwork. And yeah you're right, I'm going to beef up the computer as much as I can

Hello,

here are my crits:

-The window is too big.
-The desk is too low. (if you look the Xbox 360 is about the height of the desk leg. which isn't right)
-And I also do not get why the tv is on the ground but that one is up to you.

this is starting to look good. Good luck.

Thanks for the crits, jamsoft!

You may be right about the window, i'll see about sizing it down a notch.

You're right about the desk being too low. In fact now that you mention it, the xbox is too big also. I'll fix that.

The big idea with the tv is that it's a small room with not enough space, and the thing is too heavy to put on one of the crappy bookshelves so the guy had to put it on the floor. It would be uncomfortable to watch in that position, though -- I might put some books underneath it or something to make things more believable.

What a wonderful concept! This is a very interesting scene. I can't wait to see some lighting.

Just curious about something flathead. With the curtains covering up the window frame, will you actually need to use all those poly to model it out if it isn't going to be seen?
