Competition #15 - BARBEERIAN

Here's my idea for the competition. It's a medieval scene of a 'risk'-like game that had to be abandoned by the two players for whatever reason. The players won't quite be nobles or anything so it's not the fanciest room in the castle, but a lot nicer than a peasants house. To add to the cornered theme one player's army will be on it's last legs and cornered in one end of a continent. Since it's medieval the game map will only have europe, asia, and africa on it.

Centerpiece is the table stuff and chandalier. I'm thinking of having a mostly eaten piece of meat on a bone, some ale mugs and other items necessary for a long game. Here's what I've got so far.

Stags head mounted over fireplace. I've been to many a stately home and its pretty standard ;P

A small update. Revised the story slightly. The scene is going to be the aftermath of a Risk spaz where the losing player flipped the table on it's side and stormed out. I might have it so that there was a pair of swords above the fireplace that got taken by the two players to duel to the death. That will kinda leave the fireplace wall pretty bare, and it probably won't be apparent that there were swords there to someone just looking at it so I'm still undecided on that part. Gonna finish modeling all the major items, and then fill whatever's left of my poly budget on scattered game pieces.

Modeled most of the odds and ends now. The only modeling left to do is something above the fireplace, which I've got about 800 tri's remaining for. I still haven't decided what I'm going to do with it so I started texturing stuff. Most of the stuff in there is fairly close to the final look, except for the door arch which I need to cut into separate blocks. Texture usage is on track too. The first 2048 map is full to the brim with all the square'ish stuff, and the second 2048 map is about 75% used so far.

Oh, and nevermind the missing chain links in the chandalier. Forgot I moved the camera lol

cool idea and nice presentation. the map looks a bit to perfect, maybe wrinkle it up? also were the mugs empty when the spilled?

I feel a bit cheeky butting in since I'm not even entering, but I can't help it. I love the idea.

the floor feels wrong. Either it should be made from wood planks, or larger flatter flagstones than the cobbles currently there. The flagstones would help make the game pieces stand out better too.

No the mugs weren't empty, ditto on the stew bowl. I'll just be painting the spills onto the floor texture instead of making decals though. The whole floor has unique uv space so also just render those spilled gamepieces onto it as well.

I'll wrinkle up the map a little too, it is a little flat.

I'll also look into a new floor too perhaps. Larger flagstone might be more appropriate for indoor floors.

Glad you guys like the idea too. Anyone who's played risk has at least witnessed/perpetrated one Risk spaz!

I don't mean to complain, but the render is quite dark. I can't make out most of the objects.

I would really like to see then, unless they are not textured.

Fairly small update. I made some stains and spills in PS. Then I changed the floor texture, then rendered the game pieces and stain decals onto it (and the game map). Added some extra ambient light so the render is a little brighter.
