Competition #14 - Agostinuke

Ciao!
Mmm. Only 2 days left. I'm beating my records. Sorry, I couldn't start earlier.
Anyway, I did some wiki-google research, after some indecision I opted for a nice kind of scorpion, the Androctonus Crassicauda. Translation from the scientific name: Fat tail man killer, enough said.
I want it with 2 plasma cannons+knives on forward arms, all black/dark blue metal plated, filled with red energy, that it can shoot also from the dangerous tail, white-light blue glowy spots of secondary energy feeding its energy field. The dark metal is some kind of transparent alien alloy, which let you slightly see the veins of red energy flowing all over the body. Please feel free to comment and critique as you like. This one is hard lol.
Concept sheet, I'm going to model the last scorpion at the bottom, the first 2 are sketches from photos:

really? wow thanks...but they are just sketches

anyway I modeled the base mesh in my trusty Xsi. 998 tris. I had to fight a lot with tris but done. I wanted to make it animatable, and still it is I think on the legs, the tail would be animatable too, it was better animatable with about 1150 tris but I had to get rid of some..don't know I'm still new with all this stuff...
Now I will unwrap it and bring to zbrush and sculpt it a little bit and make normal maps. Then, I suppose, I'll start to paint textures and hopefully tomorrow evening I will submit it. And I think also I will sleep tonight :P :P
What combat class could it be in? Infantry?

The modeling is great. Lots of personality in so few polys. Very nice.

Thanks a lot guys. It's really encouraging.
So I managed to unwrap the model in some way...8 legs are hard to fit inside the uv space lol! For this reason there are parts with a different scale but it shouldn't be a big problem I hope. right?
now it's zb time. hope to post something more later.

Hey!
Last night I managed to put down a rough idea of what the diffuse map could be. This is before sculpting in Zbrush and normal mapping and with some kind of light specular map on it. Showing here just for wip's sake:


And the following are zbrush sculpted scorpion and normal map:





Now I'll paint brand new diffuse, specular and emissive maps based on the study above, then I'll place this thing on a circular base inside UE3 editor, then I'll take the pictures than I'll submit the finals here and on the submission thread then I'll say ciao ciao thx

Isn't the deadline at 0 GMT of the 27th, that is 14 minutes left now? Don't tell me it is written 0 GMT but they meant 12PM (24) because this way I submitted one full day earlier.

Edit: Ahh, now I see.... "the end of Sunday Gmt +-0" the end means at the end of Sunday gmt 0, which is gmt 0 of monday , 24-12PM of Sunday, 0 of monday. Well I've just won a day on the beach thx :applause:
