Competition #14 - VertexBum

Hi all,
I 've just seen this competition yesterday. Eventho' almost too late, I'd like to try this ... and I sure hope I could finish it in time

I wanna do a Pyralis Firefly posing something like a castle guard. Here are my references:

A slow start

Here's what I've done so far ... the firefly's head and part of its head-guard thingy:

PS:
I am still new at this. Does the final low-poly model have to be in one continuous mesh?

WOW! That concept is simply awesome, love the idea with the shield and such! what program did you use to paint it? 3DSMax?

awesome, concepts very strong, i hope you get it all done by the deadline. would be cool to see some glow maps eminating from below the head

Sorry for being so late in updating. It's been a hectic couple of days.

@shinbone: Alas, the concept is just plain in comparison to other's in this contest. It was drawn with pencil/pen/paper and not coloured. But I'll stick to it and try to finish before deadline.

@crazyfool: Thanks for the encouragement I'll surely include glow maps if I could finish modeling, skin, zbrush and texture this bug. Submision deadline is so very close now
BTW, I really like the concept and implementation of your yellow jacket wasp. Superb work!!


Finally, I got the bug out of my system ... minus its legs
Tris count:
* head parts - 138
* body - 762

cheers dude,

i think the fluency of your concept is starting to get a lil lost though, are you going for a more realistic one now? cos it would be a shame to lose your nice fluent design.
