hopefully i havent left this to late and i hope i've got the time to finish it.
i'm going to to do a giant water bug also known as a toebiter

latin name Lethocerus grandis
the reason i chose this insect is because it lives on land and can fly and can also go in the water and i see it as a complete set. not sure on the role for it yet but i was wondering if in the rules you are allowed a multiple role soldier/trooper.

Wow! That is one impressive bug.

Due to his versatility, I think he should be a Navy Seal (or other special ops unit). They have to be able to do everything well. Demolitions, air drops, water missions, they do it all.

thanks guys for your input, helped me in deciding what i'm gonna do.
ok its going to be a special forces explosives diver
its at 996 tris now so cant really add anymore to low poly
here's some updates anyway

In your reference it shows this bug going after a frog. Is this who your character is laying waste to? I dig back stories what can I say. Nice smooth modeling results.

i'm not sure what i'm seeing here but in one picture your insect has 6 legs it appears and the two appendages on the head also are you missing 2 legs?

i see what youre talking about, the underwater one, weird, it definitely does have an extra pair of limbs on that picture? in all the rest of them, and specifically the views from beneath, you can clearly see it has two main legs and then two "arms" up near the head as you have modeled, but in that one picture, it has 6 legs down below not including the 2 by the head. what a weeeeird insect.

i see what you mean by that image but if you look closely you can see that the leg nearest the front arms is actually on the otherside of the insect.

another update did a bit of optimising so i could have a bit more going on with the model and also some work done on high poly but not finished yet.
