Competition #14 - ahopps01
The latest and greatest from the beetle troops, the June Bug 11 - Cotinis Nitida Aerial Attack Unit specializes in neutralizing it's enemies by fighting fire with fire. It's weapon is crafted from the stinger of the wasp and paired up with the protective shell of the Green June Bug Beetle. This combo makes the JB11 a deadly adversary in any Army of Small battle. Unfortunately, the helmet of the JB11 is notorious for impairing vision during flight which can make for some rather rocky landings and frequent mid-air collisions.

New concept, I am definitely going to go with the mid-flight pose. The concept is definitely not pushed enough so I will exaggerate his movement and weight even more for the final pose but this will give you an idea where I am headed. Gonna start posing and reworking edge loops now. Thanks for comment

Another update, now in flight formation! As it is right now, his arms just hang down and he isn't actually holding the weapon or in his action pose but it's getting somewhere towards UV land. I noticed alot of people doing bomber bugs where the bugs are flying and carrying big bombs underneath them so I am going to stay away from that with a little more flavor in the way he is holding the weapon, possibly adding another, and putting alot of exaggeration into the arc of his flight.

Okay, well now he is holding it with one of his front right hands and counter-balancing the weight with his back left leg. I definitely feel like the pose is not very dynamic at all. Any suggestions would be very helpful. I was trying to get a good silhouette and a good pose but I think I will have to lose some of the silhouette to get more emotion into the pose. It shouldn't be too terrible.
*edit: moved one of his hands up, now he is trying to hold his "helmet" in place... poor guy. **edit: updated render color comp, moving on to unwrap and then throwing it into the box of mud, COMMENTS?? ![]() UVW TIME Last edited by ahopps01; 09-07-2008 at 12:40 AM. |

new UV layout, was originally maximizing UV space but now sacrificing some things that could possibly overlap for the final look. The seam down his face and belly was intentional since there actually will be a seam on the texture.
Some things that still overlap: The shell over the wings, the wings, his forearms, the stinger, the hair map on the wasp, eyes. Some things that no longer overlap: The body itself, upper arms, legs, helmet, head of the weapon. Gonna be busy all night but updates and final sculpt should be done this weekend. ![]() Last edited by ahopps01; 10-07-2008 at 01:35 PM. |
