Competition #14 - JStrey

Hi guys-
This will be my first game-artist competition.
I have a few questions concerning this comp-
Am I able to use a concept I have not created my self and Is this concept close enough to being bug-like to be considered.

I figured he was borderline but since his head and overall body is more beetle-like than human I thought it would be best to ask.

This concept was by Mich Byrd

This should be fun and am looking forward to all the great entries.

I'm pretty sure it was mentioned in a thread on here that concept has to be your own as well. I'd ay that ones defiantely boredline though, because the head is obviously a bug but the body seems pretty much humanoid with the exception of an extra pair of arms

rrguitar- Yeah, after going through all the other entries Ive decided this is just too borderline to be a good entry.
I'm going to whip up some of my own concepts tom after work and see what I can come up with.

Thanks!

Blaze Beetle

Ok, so I sketched up a few ideas...
My bug is based on a flame thrower and a Rhino Beetle.
He would be an undisputed threat on the clustered battlefield, able to swoop in and devastatingly fire blast the enemy.
His durable carapace also proves as an advantage as it is almost impenetrable and basically fireproof.
...or something like that.

Which do you guys like more?
I know theres not many to choose from but this should be helpful with picking a successful design.

Thanks for stopping by-

Its funny that you said that, I love that movie but hadn't even thought of that movie while doing those sketches.
Your right, its real close to the big one that gets a grenade thrown into its back...
Lol, guess my subconscious was guiding me with the design?

Ya, go beetle troops! Thanks for the kind words and I can't wait to see where you take this! Cheers

PS. I like the look of the Atlas Beetle the most, maybe mount two flame throwers on his back ala dragon saliva where when they mix together, IGNITION, then just have em aimed so that they cross eachothers path in front of him and he can storm around lighting everything on fire

Thanks man- That was kinda what I was thinking, the two horns would spray out and combine creating a highly flammable sticky napalm like substance.
Good Idea!

Heres some about 3 hours in ZB fleshing out things.
I'm obviously not going for this to be completely like my reference, and seeing as how most of the entry's have guns and or some other fantastical element implemented, I didn't see the harm in making his body armor a little "interesting."
I left a spot on his underside a bit exposed because im thinking of making that his weak spot, and a visible glowing reservoir of the flammable liquids stored inside...
Maybe not?

C&C appreciated guys-

Thanks!

nice idea. Only thing i would say is if the horns are gona spray stuff they probably dont want to be completely pointed. the overall shape is nice though.
