Just a tiny update on the ant character I was working on..
Little update on the diffuse map and an attempt to subdivide it.

I could of course chamfer some of the edges that are very noticable so the high poly will have that too, but first I want to move on to my other concept.

A grasshopper knight with a 4 handed sword. The grasshopper will have a helmet to represent most of the shape of the head, chainmail armor to cover much of the body (I can save a lot of tris by texturing that). The wings will be almost like a cape for him. The low poly isnt very far along yet, but it will be posted soon enough.

Wanted to rig this little guy before I moved on, so here is a pose I imagined from the start.. but there are endless possibilities as I can make him carry the ammobox and take off his helmet as well. Could essentially make a little squad of this one guy which would be pretty cool for the final render.

Unfortunatly I learned that I screwed up the dimensions a bit and he cant reach the handguard of the rifle but then again I didnt worry too much about the dimensions as I wanted to make him rather cartoony.

Lol, really spamming my own thread tonight :S

Here is a quick draft of my unlucky grasshopper night with his gigantic blade.

I've learned a lot about working with this low a poly count from the first character, so I've applied that to this character.

- Large surface areas where the texture can be allowed to do its work properly without getting mushed up or cut on some hard edges.

- Fewer items allover gives me a lot more tris to work with I still have around 300 left to use on the limbs alone I think so they look better.

Both of these points will help me create a better highpoly model that will be much more accuratly represented on the low poly via a normal map imho.

Edit: theme here is of course cartoon once again.. a really nice style for these low poly creatures imo.

I like your grasshoper, I think you could get a really nice piece with it. I like its design

I have been too busy with finishing up stuff for the release of my mod and work for Project Reality to take care of this thing. Too bad though, I really wanted to make something great this time and redeem myself from my not so impressive entry last time.. I dont know what time it is in the timezone this comp is going by, but that dosnt matter much as I cant make my rifle ant worthy enough to enter a comp.. Makes me look bad yet again if I turn in half finished work.
