Competition #14 - Jinx

Well this seem to be a nice and interesting little competition.

so here is my attempt.

first of all I kind of had no idea what insect to go for but after just a short browsing here and there I came across this Beautiful... Thing... White Plume Moth thingy...

Plume moth - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

it just looks epicly holy to me, my plan is to make some sort of priest of some sort out of it...

any who here is the starter mesh which is still at just playing stage, every thing will be adjusted when I'm happy with the form.

I've got to apologize as my sketches/doodles are not meant to be for presentation they're more for me to figure out how I'm going to model bits and pieces together.

well this is how it looks so far..

so far its 45 above the limit.. I need to to find a way to cut down on the tri count. the staff is 134tri and quite happy with it.

I think i might have to weld in the folded limbs in her chest and add them to the texture as I wont be using them.. I just love how the insects can fold their limbs on their body so.

as for the wings if i get despread ill remove one and try to make it work with two rather than three....

Nice one, really digging it. I'd cut out the "supports" you have in the wings and just normal map them.

No issue really, here the strains in the wing are normal mapped.... if anything, a semi-transparent normal would look awesome

Good model! A few points you can save triangles:

The last polygon of the strip you use for the antennas can be a triangle instead of a quad.

I'd remove one edge loop from the chest area.

Finally, I'd get rid of those tiny triangles at the knees.

Does not save 45 tri's but I hope that provides some help. Keep up the good work

Looks very cool, as Addi suggested, I think it would look even cooler if the staff was a bit bigger so it fits you're bug a bit more.

^^ thanks guys you were right, made the staff bigger it looks much better now here's an update, i kind of removed and just made a spiked shape arms for the 2nd set of arms, it kind of look like mantis arms...

removed bunch of edge loops here and there and made some 5edge loops round the tail and some other parts down to 3,4... hmm yeah lot more here and there.

added bunch of faces for cloth. and now I'm at 964. I'm in need of more faces round the model for lose cloth but at this point im just thinking what els ei can add to the model and what is required.
