Competition #14 - chris89
Good day to you all.
As some of you might know, i'm not really a contest finishing kinda guy. But as always i promise to get as far as i can ![]() I started thinking about what to model since yesterday. Though today i saw a lot of people with the same insect as a base, i'm still going to stick with the original plan. Guess what: a praying mantis ![]() It'll have the role of a Medic, and i'm going to try to keep the textures and proportions kinda realistic. Since i S*CK! at concepts, here's a quick 5 minute paintover of what i'm going to aim for. But then of course with real materials and a bit more dirt'n'stuff. ![]() Ow and a bit more green insect skin stuff and less robot stuff. I'm sticking close to the bug itself. Any ideas, critique, naked pictures, all very much appreciated. |

Wow! This one is looking great. You've nailed the pose, and the legs look great.
How are you going to do the "hands"? A medic won't have much need for serrated rippers, as you've pointed out, but you also don't seem to be straying too far from reality. A medic needs to be able to be gentle and dexterous; rather than claws, it needs "fingers". Do you have any ideas for that yet? Looking forward to more. |

thanks man.
Well, i'm thinking of cutting one claw in half and sticking some syringe needles out of it, and maybe some more tools, still have to do a (ugly as always) sketch of it to see how it looks. No ideas yet for the other arm though, i guess i could play around with some robot hands or something like that, any ideas? |

Looks nice!
I think one hand could be something like syringe with some tube connected to the medicine tank on the back (the tank part is just some wild imagination of mines) ... the other hand/arm i think it's okay to keep the ripper (but alter the look to make it looks like Surgical Knife/ Scalpel?) since he's a medic (or is this a "she"?) , and this is the war between "army of smalls" so I think it's logical for him to use it to remove some (non-poisonous) stingers from flying units such as bees or wasps from the body of his allies. Looking forward to see updates! |
