Competition #14 - Baida

Hello, I have many things to do but that shouldn't take so much time
At least I hope.

But what I want to do is a Bombardier Beetle, I chose that one because I like the way they defend themselves.

A quick description of their way to defend against others creatures.

Bombardier beetles are remarkable creatures, truly deserving the attention they have received. They earned their common name from their ability to defend themselves against predators by firing a mixture of boiling-hot toxic chemicals from special glands in their posterior. In at least one species, the spray even takes the form of a pulse jet.

It would be cool to capture that slick translucent look somehow. Maybe by messing with the normals, I don't think we're allowed shaders of any kind in this compo

@Sniper: Yes, I hope I'll turn it in the good way, we 'll see but I'll try

@Sean: I would like indeed but to be honest, at the moment, I don't know how could I get that result, perhaps by playing with the opacity of alpha map no !? Not sure, should do some test....
By the way, I read only "Alpha/diffuse/normal/glow/specular maps are allowed.

So, I started to model my insect, it's about 650 tris, I'll perhaps/surely have to optimize (Even more the tank) it as the legs are still left and I think those are going to take some polies...



So, my unit 'll be a chemical infantry unit support
As you can see, the insect (Brachinus Crepitans) is carrying a tank on his back.

This tank is filled with agricultural/biological product or something else which allows him to kill ennemies. (In fact, according to the unit he wants to kill he can put what he wants into his tanks.)

It's also there to help him when he has burnt out all his personal stock incorporated in his body.

You could make the wire out of 2 tri's (triangle, front & back) with an alpha map Maybe normal map the eyes.

This way you could add more to his kit/loadout. The insect is only half of the job, the other is convincing us he's fitted to be a warrior and a certain class with that army.

Thanks for your comment I'll get ride of those eyes so !But I don't see which parts are you talking about the alpha map

About the class, Chemical infantry isn't convincing !?

Sure is, but we need to be "visually" assured Meaning, distribute your detail well across the limitations.

I optimized further the mesh and added a bag and protection glasses aswell.
It's about 952 tris at the moment I think. I expect to add some little stuff to his load like a shovel made of stone and wood for exemple. (Which would make him looking even more as a soldier unit) and add behind him the pulse jet coming from his posteirior with alpha planes.

By the way about the bag, I don't know if I'll make it looking like something crafted from leaves or something more traditional like a human soldier.

I hope I could to that with the polies remaining...

Give him radio antennas on top of the canisters. He has to be able to radio in I like the changes though, nice one!

I've kept on working on it a little bit. I don't know if that's going to be the final low poly.
I 'll see according to the feedbacks I'm going to get.

It's 999 triangles... So, I can't add anytghing else, since the last post I haven't done so much...
I just added the blanket on his side and the Radio which is stuck to the tank. I hope, I did a good polies distribution...
