Competition #13 - ahriman

Hi guys, i decided to show the ships that i've been working on. In the last game artist competition i didn't manage to finish the "street prop" due to lack of time but hopefully this time i'll finish.

So, here it goes...

Battleship ( High Polygon)

Side

Top

Bottom

Front

Back

Battleship (Low Polygon)

Fighter (High Polygon)

Side

Top

Bottom

Front

Back

Fighter (Low Polygon)

The mothership really has soft edges. You might want to either harden your high poly's edges or chamfer the low poly's, or the ship will have a huge, visible seam in every place you wanted a soft edge. the same applies to your fighter.
You don't want to fully rely on a normal map to detail your model, you have to shape the low poly a bit more like the high poly, or the normal map will turn out very weird.

very retro. A nice retro texture will make this really shine i think.

What scale is the ship supposed to be? As well as in comparison to each other? The battle ship looks like it is about the size of a truck, in fact it looks quite a bit like a truck.

The fighter looks the same ship as the battleship, but without the back section.

I agree with tigger your entries look a lot like they are from a retro cartoon. Is that the look you are going for?

fabiodan - Thanks for the tip, I'm still learning the whole normal mapping process, so any advice is more than welcome.

tigger - I don't know yet how the texture style will be but retro is my first option.

DavidMcKenna - You're right, it looks like a truck, i was playing around with many concepts but this truck-ship style really apealed to me. As for the fighter the only thing that is similar with the battleship is the back part. To be honest I didn't intend for my ships to have this retro look.

Looks like someone has been holding back some progress .

Any word on the texture?

Following Fabiodan's advice I hardened some of the edges of the ship. The UV Layout for the battleship is done. I even managed to bake the normal maps for some of the major parts. After some tweaking the battleship will be ready for texturing.

Battleship - High Polygon

Battleship - Low Polygon with Normal map
