Competition #13 - RedRogueXIII
This should be a nice time to try new things. I'll get some concepts up in a few. Good luck to everyone else though.

Don't take this the wrong way, but it looks like a harpoon gun. Or a submarine. If I were you, I'd drop the submarine tail off the back altogether, and do something different with the front. It looks like maybe you were going for a ramming ship? If so, that's a good idea, but try some different things with the front. I'm not a big fan of the current asterisk shaped spear head look.
Keep in mind this is all my initial impression and opinion, so take it with a grain. One thing you should definitely do, however, is play around with the shapes some more. If you prefer it this way afterward, then by all means stay with it. Regardless, it's a great start. Keep up the progress.

This has potential to be a very cool 50's retro kind of space ship. Take a look at some classic sci-fi "Planet-X" kind of stuff. Maybe also some older Godzilla stuff where he has to go to Ghidorah's planet. With a little more playing around with the shapes you'll need a dashing daring-do captain to pilot it!

Not sure if you're working from reference or a concept you've done. If you haven't got anything down on paper though it wouldn't hurt to get some ideas down. Develop it in 2d and then perfect it in 3d.
I agree with laughing_bun that it just seems like very vague random shapes. Yet I think Godo is right that you could have a fairly different style with this compared to the other entries. I'm interested to see what you'll do with this, but I'd really recommend getting some concept work done before you dive into modeling.

![]() The updated design of the long-range battleship now christened Brynhild after the Norse Valkyrie. In the dark ages of space exploration the united earth space exploration agency needed warships to protect the fragile roots of an empire, and thus the Valkyrie warship program was designed. The specifications for the ships were near impossible: to engage and hold off unknown enemy fleets, to travel quickly between colony planets light years away, and to operate independently for prolonged periods of time. The engineers were quick to respond, but complex and elaborate designs were found to be too costly, or in need of constant maintenance. Reversing their direction, they came to design around the overlooked solution of rocketry and the design quickly changed from warship to a giant reusable projectile. The Brynhild is of the latest Valkyrie design, a LRD13A9. LRD13 class ships utilize powerful directional electromagnets along with their intense momentum as a weapon. Without any laser cannons or missile silos, LRD13's use their whole physical mass and acceleration as a weapon. Faced with a larger ship as an opponent, crews will lock onto critical exposed areas, then will proceed to ram and pull itself through the enemy ship. Using the electromagnets to hold onto asteroids and then steer them into larger ships has also been a noted successful technique. The LRD13 class is hardly defenseless against smaller ships as the electromagnets can be reconfigured into a wide net capable of pulling them into the ship's large engines or into the ship's path of destruction. However further development has been put into small arms, and some heavy duty LRD13's have been outfitted with armored rocket plates. These rocket plates are disposable sheets of armor that hold numerous iron rod projectiles. These projectiles cover the armor like a porcupine and stick outwards towards enemy ships. Like a cluster bomb the LRD13's can quickly maneuver inside an enemy formation and disengage all rocket plates into the surrounding ships. Occasionally these projectiles will have attached explosives and will wreck havoc in oxygenated ship interiors. When the rocket plates have outlived their usefulness they can be disengaged from the ship, preferably into an enemy fleet. At 3k tris, rocket plates not done yet, still need todo the uvmaps and texture. |
