Ok, so, I was scoping what people had done, and saw Godo was gonna crunch in an entry with about the same amount as what I had done. I felt guilty because I had the time, but wasn't planning on it...soo, here we go. Progress.

The wings and gun on the heavy fighter (mothership) are still WIP.

I'm well stocked on Dr. Pepper - let the crunch battle begin.

I like the motherships body and rear but the bit that extrudes at the bottom I don't think looks to great. Also the fighter doesn't seem to match the design of the mothership in any way.

Good luck!

Whats the worst that could happen ?

UnsteadyTeddy: Thanks for the crit. A friend did a paintover for me, and said much the same thing as you about the mothership. The drone ship...I dunno, I did keep some of the styles similar (minus the blades obviously). I think it'll be a lot more obvious when I've got it textured.

Here's the final low poly (unless someone sees a glaring mistake...) :

Edit: That's 5,402 tris (mothership + 1 drone). I'd really love to blow 1600 more tris somewhere, but I've gotta get going on the uv and stuff. Clock is ticking!

Thats better. I'm in a rush so a quick crit:

Red line = rotate these edges so it looks nicer and you'll get more definition on your silhouette.

Green line = you've got lots of spare tris so you might as well add some edges here to round it out more.

I didn't add any edge loops to round the angles off because I did kind of want some angularity there. You are correct that the geometry was totally unorganized, however, and that the existing edge loops did need to be rotated. So, here we are. The wing tips are still somewhat messy as well, but...whatever.

UV time.

UVs are done enough to make a texture, and I started on it, but as I look at cost/benefit for the project I think I'm gonna stop rushing to meet the deadline and go at a normal pace to the finish. I can either make a half a'd texture with the current less than optimal UVs, or take my time and make a really nice portfolio piece. I think the latter is more beneficial. I'll probably make a thread in the WIP forum when I have substantial progress on the texture.

My apologies go to the GA staff that organized this, because it's really a flipping sweet compo, and I totally blew it with re-deciding to take part just a few days before deadline. :P Thanks a ton for the work you put into it, please make the next compo soon.

And here's my general concept:

The one on top is a front view of the mommyship, if you couldn't figure that out. Bottom is the side view of the fighter (it's pointing to the left, the blades point forward).

Also, I'm thinking I want my dudes shooting at stuff in the beauty render. If anyone wants to be my arch enemy let me know.
Yes, it is good .very nice .
