Competition #13 - nikuskwas

Hello,

I have done many sketches in 3D and 2D. This is one that I like a lot. I hope you people find it interesting.

Nick.

That is certainly interesting, looks like a giant research vessel of some sort.

Ok, reading some other people's posts, I found that many ideas are shared and are similar (I agree that there is not much room for creativity in this theme). So I will just post my sketches in order to show my ideas, from which any of these could grow up into the Final Design.

Nick.

I really like the one in the top right corner. Looks like a cross between the space shuttle, a AWACS, a imperial star destroyer and maybe a B2 sort of plane (flying wing aircrafts).

I cant say exactly what it is that speaks to me, but it just seems well balanced with some interrest. However, it might end up looking a bit much like a star destroyer, but its definitly something I would go with.

yea, I know. I'm still exploring stuff. I keep comming up with new stuff I cant put on my current model - but I intend to make more than one model (before I UV map it) and have some people help me decide which one they like the most before I go on. But I have to focus on getting the model done and UV mapped within the first of the two months since I'm slow with UV. I am very slow an inexperinced with texturing so I need time to learn it and get it right.

Haha there's so much room for creativity in this theme it's silly, in fact thats part of the reason for it. The main thing is it isn't going to be easy to be unique, but no one said it would be a super easy comp. We're hoping for some real creativity as people try harder to make their work stick out

For your concept models though, I like the bottom right one the most. The other ones seem quite generic, but if you work on the design of the bottom right one it could be pretty sweet.

Hmmm... I'm not that sure if there is so much room to build something completely new. I remember my Graphic Design classes, where my teacher used to say (or he quoted someone), that "Nothing is designed from scratch... everything is a re-design of something that already exists".

So, to be quite frankly, I think that whatever we come up with, there will already be something very similar out there.

--- Back to the models, the bottom right one, I don't know why, looks like a Star Trek model, of some alien sort of race.

Thanks for the comments!

Your first concept has the most potential i think.
Kinda reminds me of the EF76 Nebulon-B Escort Frigate from Star Wars.
And yes there is a LOT of room for creativity. Who says a ship has to look like a ship?
As long as it moves, does stuff, and is able to hold people, aliens, robots, etc. It would qualify as a ship. The various ships throughout the sci fi universe had to come from somewhere.
Keep on thinking man, an Idea will come.

Thanks Retro- Cow,

Well yes... perhaps I sounded too conservative on the "creative" issue. I'm currently not worried about the final concept, actually, I'm having a lot of fun doing all these sketches, from which all, I think, have something nice to highlight.

I'm considering spending the whole week doing this before starting the "hardcore" model. Doing a good pre-production always gives great results I think.

Nick.
