Competition #13 - DTRoy

hello there,

I know i should have started with some 2d concepts just like most others.. but since im not a real good 2d artists but a pretty fast moddeler i decided to simply start moddeling a few ideas i have..
im not quit sure yet but i think this is the model im gonna continue with a bit further. I dubbed it the Nu Rave Craft cuz im planning to give it a nu rave texture when its finished..
as you can see i only have the trusters for now.. the rest is in my head. Also only the middle trusters on the side are actual trusters and ofcourse the big middel one.. the ones below and above them have holes on the front that suck in air and pump that into the middle small trusters.. not sure it that makes any sense.. but i thought it was clever.. and since this is not going to b a realtistic spaceship anyway i think ill keep it..

Not really much to comment on,
All I can say is it doesnt matter how bad you are a concepts, I would seriosly suggest drawing first. Just because I normally find myself very bored redoing models over and over again.

Good Luck!

it is pretty cool, but there are a lot of stuff your eye have to spot - but that might help when things start to get different colors when textures are added later on.
I kind of like and dislike the cartoony rockets on the side of it - I'm sort of waiting for the coyote to jump into it, but then again its missing the "Ajax" sign on it then

I like it if its a cartoony theme you are going for, otherwise those rockets just keeps me thinking of cartoons - that could change depending on how the concept evolves. I'll stay tuned 8-)

I agree. Perhaps give it a more "sharp" look... will make it feel more hostile. But on the other hand, if your theme is intended to be cartoony, then its fine.

Nick.

Just a question... how much air do you think there is where that baby is going to fly?

See I was worried about aerodynamics until I thought about that for a second, Provided you had the thrust you could make a giant 'piece of paper' spaceship just as fast as a needle.

That said, sleek things always look like they're going faster, so +1 psych out points.

Yup, and there are other things to keep in mind about the shape too... If the ship has an aerodynamic shape, it may avoid the worst damage in collisions coming from the front of it and it might also make a fighter more difficult to hit, which is a good thing... I hope you agree.. :P

thats a good point.. i think i will go back to the concept stage with my fighter.. but i dont think its neccesarely wrong to do it in this order. I was still thinking about what style i wanted to give my spaceships, and for me that works better in 3d..

here another little render with a little bit of progress. I wanted to give my fighter a face, a personality. obviously the nose is too big on this render but im still working out how thats going to look. but i wanna keep it as chilhdish as it is now.. maybe even give it a small helmet and some glasses

Its not gonna be the new rave craft anymore.. when i saw this shape i wanted to go in this direction:
Cartoony, Classic, Ponderous, Old

This will be the basic shape of my mothersip for now. and the small details on her are gonna be misplaced ponderous shit, like cogs, support bars and big engines that stick out of her, more suggestions are welcome...

the mothership doesn't look like it can move. right now it seems to me like a piece of the ship, like a hangar separated from the rest of the ship, yet still in the same piece
