Not a dumb question at all, but yes, by all means you're allowed!

I wish you the best of luck, and honestly, no matter how demotivated you get at any stage or unhappy you are with any part, see it through! It's so worth it.

I will, I'm pretty sure I'll learn a lot when I come to texturing - since I've only done stuff under 1K tris before for practice purposes.

This looks like it's going to be big and fun, super stoked to get started and I'm really happy about the amount of time we have before the deadline. Thanks Glynn and Ben and Req, and everyone else involved and especially the sponsors. Best of luck to all that enter, I'm going to do my best here and try and really focus on finishing. The finishing part seems to be the hardest.

For our beauty render, are we allowed to use multiple ships, say if we go for the warship/fighter look?

Yes.

On a different note, does anyone want to be my enemy? The armada from Pantsilon Beta Phi needs an enemy force to be blowing up in my beauty render (and I of course would return the favor).

I just wanna say THANKS.

This forum has always been very good to environment and prop modelers, where other forums seem like all they focus on is characters.

Yay for environments and props!

I know the rules say only one texture sheet per model, but it would be nice if you were able to alter numbers on the ships, but that would break that rule I guess.

Rules don't say that, they just restrict your dimensions If you want to spill over some mothership texture on the 512 x 512, then go for it.
