Competition #12 - bensart

Hey, I've decided to have a go at this one as it is a nice small interesting challenge.

Alot of my initial ideas have already been taken up by others on this forum but I finally thought of something yet to be seen, a flower stand. Its been hard to keep this under the triangle count but it currently stands at 998, not a lot left to play with.

Textures are WIP.

Any crits or comments more the welcome.

Thanks,

Are there supports to the over-hanging part? Looks like its just hanging in mid air at the moment from this camera angle.

I'd also try and get some variation into the colour of the flowers, or at least a different type of flower on the texture. I can understand that they might like selling a popular type, but i imagine there'd be more of a choice in the stand. The alpha's definitely work well though.

Nice unique idea too

Aye, I agree on the flowers, they are purely used as place holder at the mo though so no worries there. I would like to get a few varieties of flower in there but I will have to play with the triangles to see if I can get another good style of flower. The whole idea behind persisting with a flower stand was to get a lot of colour within the texture so there will definatly be more colours added .

The canopy is supported by arms at either side. I was a but dubious about modelling it like this as well but a lot of reference says this is a strong enough method (which is nice because I've run out of polies :P).

Thanks for your comments.

Texture Update.

Played around with it tonight. Im happier with the shade of green on the walls now but need to work on the roof. This was just a quick 15mins rough up of the roof texture to see where it was heading. I think I will drastically change it tomorrow though.

Comments and crits would be great.

Thanks,

the texturing looks really good, did you paint it?

I am a bit doubtful about the tricount for a model of this size and detail. You can reduce tris in the following areas:
1. Make the flowers just plains. I see that you have used 3-sided objects.
2. Check whether you have any surfaces underneath the bricks, pots and the building itself.
These can save you some tris.
There seems to be a space between the shade and building. If you could make the shade a little bit rounded, this can be avoided.
i think the shade lacks support beams. Just two cylinders would suffice. If you have shortage of tris, just two plains would do, which can be alpha mapped.
Good work so far!
