What's the method for baking normals in 1024x512 in max :X? Since I can't choose non-square dimensions on the render output.

Make it 1024x1024 and then resize it in Photoshop.

That won't make it 100% perfect though, right?

With every resize you lose some information but you shouldn't notice it, unless you have really really small details that are 1 pixel wide on the 1024 normal map. I don't think it's the case. If you really think this is damaging your normal map you can use 2 512 textures, instead of 1 1024x512... the rules allow it.

i have a doubt here. Can the background used in the scene have a separate texture? For example, a street prop (telephone booth) and road / wall behind it. So, the phone booth (street prop) will have texture at 1024 x 512 resolution and the background scene (road, wall etc) will have a separate texture.

All in the rules

Now, sorry if I'm being ignorant XD I'm new here... But As far as Tri's go... Does that mean we cannot use Quads, or if we do, do we have to split it into two Tri's?

Thanks, and sorry if it is a bad question!

Visually your model may not always be broken down in tri's, but structurally it always will be. Check the tri counter if you're ever unsure
