Alrighty, I've gotta get back into the game and so I'm starting out with this!

The idea is a kinda "Flak 88 Railgun".



It's actually an idea I've been playing around with for a Action/RTS game I've got on the backburner... A stationary gun platform is the most building oriented thing in the game, so I figured I'd try to flesh out the idea here...


I really gotta fix my scans and find my ruler, but it's enough to model off of for now

They've got one of these in Company of Heroes. Looks pretty awesome when you've got all the people crewing it and it's blowing stuff up. There's not much to crit so far but good luck

yeah, dont know how many of you loyal unreal fans played xmp. but the sunset beach map had a giant gun building thing. i dunno, mabey an admin will give some feedback on the idea

My advice: read the rules before you get into a challenge- this definately won't be allowed in my opinion due to the 'no weapon building' rule. As i understand, regular buildings (eg. barracks, power generators, repair bays etc) are allowed to have a defense system comprising of weapons or shields or whatever, but buildings with its main purpose being to kill stuff with a big cannon or whatever is not allowed.

Just like me to ignore the bolded words in the rules

I've got another idea tho, now I'll have to put it down...


sides... the design wasn't looking to good in 3D, look cool for animation, but not very practical.

I'll up some sketches and stuff from Maya later tonight hopefully. I'll actually sketch out a perspective like I should have done too.



Righty-o, so I've decided to go with a kinda fantasy barbarian forge/smelter thing. Figured castle or tower was too cliche and felt like fantasy.

I hammered the basic idea out in Maya and popped the low end into Mudbox, and here's what it looks like before I give it a go in Mudbox...

Hope nobody minds the double post, but I just got a quick and dirty intro to UVmapping and mapped out the model, as well as added a few more things.



I'm going to try to add a guy in there but so far it's 1000 tris and I have some more stuff to add.

Righty, well I had school start-up, and I haven't used oils in years, and I'm signed up for advanced painting so I've been spending most of my time getting a handle on them.

I've defiantly learned a ton about UVs, unwrapping and texturing so this was a great learning experience. I'm not anywhere near done, and knowing what I do now I would kill the UV layout I have now and start all over, but I'm doing a bit to try to finish it up and I'll submit it in a little while.


Last WIP, ignore the bump on the flag, I moved UV's around and haven't updated the normal.
