Competition #11 - weasel.acuh5o

lo everyone,

I decided to stick with the original topic (aka cnc building). I wanted to do something that fits the church like character of NOD, so here is my advanced tiberium power plant with and exposed core on the front, doubling as nod's 'altar of reason'.

only worked on the high res so far, about 90% done. needs some cleaning up and some minor details. and some smoothing. also, I'm not very happy with the highest tower of it, probably going to redo the top of it. the clamps just don't look terribly clampy.

Wow, that blew my mind. Nice work so far. Looks very cool. Looks like its very high poly tho. What is the poly count?

woah, fantastic shapes. No crits at all on the modeling

I really like the sticky out cylinders, kinda reminds me of those old microscopes you used to get with the revolving lenses

I hope you get this all finished up, should be really good when its all textured up

tk: thanks, I'll probably keep most of the glowing stuff (and add some more, esp in the core chamber).

havoc: going to wrap the high res up today, going to post a wire of that once it's done. it's high though

alchemist: ta, that's the bit I like best myself :P

well, that's it. I'm out.

I spent two days optimizing the damn low res to 1500 polies. which didn't look half bad after I dropped some pipes and flaps. unwrapping was more or less fun for a change (yay, modo), but I totally underestimated how little texture space I have. I can't really mirror anything on this model, and so even the larger structures are hardly recognizable. bummer, I like the design. just no way and can do this on a level that I can live with.

everyone who's still in, good look. I doubt the turnout will be as high as last time, but I've seen some quality stuff in the wip threads, so make sure you hand it all in.

That's a shame man because the model was looking really sweet. Is there really no way you can manage to get the texture working?

I've played around a bit more with it, and even the bigger details on the model (big-ish rims on the cylinder etc) only get a few pixels wide on the normal map. even with a very high antialiasing it looks very jittery and unsatisfying... but like alchemist said, I might give it another go with a larger map some time.

ta for the nice comments, means a lot to me.
