Competition #11 - Thorjan

Hi everyone

I want to say a big hello to the ga.net community !
First time I enter a competition here , hopefully with a strong entry

I mainly entered to increase my texture skill , as I have almost no experience in texture painting . Watched alot of tutorials and have made some digital painting . Now put that knowledge to the test !

Here is my model , inspired by the artist PaperBlue

upgrade/tech center , produces special units

The planes that stick out are for alpha maps . Some cuts are for texture tilling
Now normals, texture and lightmap

Yes, looks good, but I don't like that flag, hehe.

cool model! i like the style. now let us see some textures

and you could probably spend those 37 tris, which you still have left, to improve those spikes/antennas on top of the building.

Very cool model! Real modern. I like how you've proportioned everything. The little techy bits, pipes and by all means keep the flag. I hope you'll work with a lot of different surfaces fo the different parts.

Rather than a flag (for faction/team etc) perhaps you could have a banner draped down the side of the building on one of the flat walls?

Otherwise, it looks really cool. Very modern vibe from it

Update - uvw layout

Thanks for all the comments .
I removed the flag as it I was unsure of it myself .
Howerver I have reserved a large uv space for the banners at the side of the building.

-model-

Already spotted a place that needed unique mapping ( all the blue surfaces share texturespace).

-uvw layout-

Next steps :
-delete all polys that are double mapped
-maybe a highpoly model , will normal maps suffer from low-resolution ? ill test it out
-texture

512x1024 is hardly low-resolution and that should work fine.
