Competition #11 - Coldfire
Hello all,
I'm new to g-a.net and game art in general but I thought I would enter the competition and see how I go. I'm sticking with the C&C theme and I thought I'd make some kind of GDI research facility for experimentation on captured scrin. ![]() Given where the camera usually is I wanted to spend most of my polys in the roof area, so those things on the top of the bunker are supposed to be skylights/glass, but I'm not really sure I like where it's going. Also I think my scale is out of whack as well... It's the right size for a real building... but RTS buildings always have some wierd kind of tardis effect going on which makes them odd sizes... not sure how to get around that yet. From a technical point of view I have no clue what I'm doing... this is my first attempt at low poly, UV mapping and normal mapping and I'm already at 1400 tris so I guess it will change a lot before the deadline. I'll appreciate any comments, Cheers, Josh Last edited by Coldfire; 13-08-2007 at 03:02 AM. |

Update & Wire
Hello again,
It took me a little while to work out how to get a nice wireframe render happening. I am at 1126 tris at the moment so I might have to scrap the higher block. ![]() Having looked at some of the other threads I might have to think of a more creative idea than "generic C&C research type building". I think I may have also made a mistake by not going with a symmetrical building.. I assume that would have let me make better use of my UV and normal space. Here's my current texturing.. needs a lot of work yet: http://www.joshwaters.net/ga/rts_02.jpg Thanks, Josh |

The texturing looks kind of weird; you usually only see long thing planks like that when it's made out of wood or something. Going by the scale of the building those things would be gigantic. I'd think about breaking it up in to smaller metal panels like the ones on the Experience Music Project building. The color also needs some tweaking so that it looks like metal.
