The Ultimate RTS Building - Specifications & Rules



Theme

This competition's theme is one that has been much demanded by the community so we're looking at a strong turnout. The Ultimate RTS Building requires you to produce one non-weapon Player Building . Although we have no prizes this time around, I'm sure a lot of you will jump right in it!

Special Note: Player Building means a building that is spawned by the player (yet is not a weapon). You may pick from any theme / type of RTS. If the structure has small assets which aren't directly attached to the building, but make up part of the scene/structure, i.e crates & barrels, this is fine too (but be very careful as to not go overboard and get points deducted by judges).

Maximum Triangles -

1500

Maximum Textures
1024 x 512 Diffuse
1024 x 512 Specular (optional)
1024 x 512 Bump / Normal (optional)
1024 x 512 Alpha (optional)
1024 x 512 Glow (optional)

(Two 512 x 512's are permitted, as well as 512 x 1024)

Submission Guidelines

Entry Deadline is the End of Sunday the 2th of September GMT +-0 as time zone.

Work in Progress should be posted by yourself in a seperate thread named by using the prefix "Competition #11" and your Username as thread title, i.e. "Competition #11 - requiem2d". This is not required, but if you are working with complex normal maps or detailed textures, you may want to receive some advice before submitting.

Final Submissions should be posted by yourself in the thread titled "Competition #11 The Ultimate RTS Building - Submissions". Please note that to be able to submit, your entry must be a complete piece. Only one entry per contestant & no use of assets previously created.

Provide the following -
  • Beauty Render of Final Piece 800x600 (you may make alterations in Photoshop as long as they do not significantly change the original piece, i.e. dodge, burn, blur, sharpen, levels. Use of environments are also allowed)
  • Link to Wireframe of Final Piece 800x600
  • Links to all texture sheets used (original sizes)
Only your beauty render should be displayed in your post within the submissions thread, all other images linked to. This is so that the thread remains organized. Failure to meet the above or incorrectly post your submission will be brought to your notice a single time, if the issue has not been fixed by the contest deadline, the entry will be eliminated.

Game-Artist.net reserves the right to amend any of the above during the course of the Contest. If you are in the top 3, expect to be asked to send in your model.

Oh man this is going to be sweet. I'm actually going to start early on this one so I can finish!

C&C theme is a tad narrow - I was initially hoping to go for something more in the style of Company of Heroes, but I'll see what I can come up with :X

Btw you seem to have linked to GDI units instead of GDI structures: GDI Structures in C&C 3 - Planet CnC

This will be the first time I've ever attempted to make an RTS asset. It should prove an interesting experience. I do wish the theme was more open to interpretation, though. I've never played a C&C game.

Nice idea. I'll definitely be doing something for GDI...

Edit: Your GDI link points to the units, not the structures...

woot, I was hoping for this. count me in

edit: btw, is it ok to do one of the super weapons like the ion cannon? not quite sure if 'no weapons' just refers to turrets and such...
