I think he means there is no use learning maya-specific particles, since they often(always?) can't be exported to game engines.
But I'm extremely sure that game engines/games has had particles since way, way back ;]

Yeah learning Maya's particle engine isn't going to get you anywhere with game particle engines.

heh.... You wouldn't believe the stuff i try to learn just to learn it. Yes Yin, you are quite right. It is quite possible to import maya particle data into a game, but probably not practical enough for a game company to implement it. I plan on doing just that when I get around to continuing my own engine. But this model is only for the sake of this comp and, of course, learning. Anyways, I hope to post something soon, this is such an awesome site, im glad i came across it.
