The Ultimate Pick-up - Specifications & Rules



Theme

We have a very exciting theme this time around. We used to run over it in the past and it's saved our precious e-lives more than once ! The trusty Pick-up It must either be a Health *or* Ammo

With a tri-count of 1500, you will be able to both have time to enter this competition as well as have a worthy piece for your portfolio. In the past, pick-ups used to be very low-res and as such, use your tri's wisely. You may create small underlying platforms, light effects using alpha maps, or anything your mind can come up with.

Special Note: You may only render sides that exist, selecting render "both sides" on a single sided alpha may cause your piece to exceed the tri-count.

which submits a final entry will get a free electronic issue of the 3DCreative Magazine (July 2007 Edition). Please note that to qualify as a contestant your entry must be a complete piece. Partially completed, work in progress or rushed work does not qualify and as a result will not be eligible. Game-Artist.Net & Zoo Publishing have full discretion in this matter.

Submission Guidelines

Entry Deadline is the End of Sunday the 14th of July GMT +-0 as time zone.

Work in Progress should be posted by yourself in a seperate thread named by using the prefix "Competition #10" and your Username as thread title, i.e. "Competition #10 - requiem2d". This is not required, but if you are working with complex normal maps or detailed textures, you may want to receive some advice before submitting.

Final Submissions should be posted by yourself in the thread titled "Competition #10 The Ultimate Pick-p - Submissions". Please note that to be able to submit, your entry must be a complete piece. Partially completed, work in progress or rushed work does not qualify and as a result will not be eligible. Game-Artist.Net & Zoo Publishing have full discretion in this matter. Only one entry per contestant & no use of assets previously created.

Provide the following -
  • Beatuy Render of Final Piece 800x600 (you may make alterations in Photoshop as long as they do not significantly change the original piece, i.e. dodge, burn, blur, sharpen, levels. Use of environments are also allowed)
  • Link to Wireframe of Final Piece 800x600
  • Links to all texture sheets used (original size)
  • E-mail Address to be used if you are to win any of the prizes
Only your beauty render should be displayed in your post within the submissions thread, all other images linked to. This is so that the thread remains organized. Failure to meet the above or incorrectly post your submission will be brought to your notice a single time, if the issue has not been fixed by the contest deadline, the entry will be eliminated.

Zoo Publishing reserves the right to display any entries posted here in the 3DCreative magazine

Game-Artist.net reserves the right to amend any of the above during the course of the Contest.

I'm going to join this one, but i wont have time for around 2 weeks. Should still have time though. Great theme, but, and im sure im not the only one here - i keep thinking of everything ive seen before and that sucks :P Good luck everyone!

A quick question, does the ammo pickup have to be generic or can you do say "this is my rendition of a rail gun slug"... ie: re-concept ammo from games?

As long as I could play the game for the first time and have the feeling "this is probably an ammo pickup" So yes, if the design is really different, try to use harder colors and shapes, more ammo-like.
