Blue Box

Heres what I decided to model, I just remembered the blue box from back in the day, I'm not that good at modeling @_@ and I'm even worse at texturing so here it is: 497 triangles @_@

ok, where to start. first off, i'm not sure what a blue box is from back in the day, but i do have some tips and comments,, first off,, thats definately not 497 tris i'd bet that just that wire is well over 500 tris,, based on some quick math, just the box with the buttons apears to be right at 500. it seems that your polycount was just for one bit of the device in the scene, but it doesnt have to be,, theres oodles of tons of places to cut polys out of that thing.

heres an image with what i would sugest, this will knock the polycount of the box down from near 500 to just 188, if you insist on adding the small bebels on the buttons (i would sugest doing with texture) it will make the model 316 polys,

as for the wire,, ohh boy thats some excess polys all over that bad boy,, for this poly range i would recomend, an flat segmented poly strip with a double sided material, sure it will be flat,, but what size will you ever see this thing in game, if it will need to be close up,, perhaps the cross section of flat polys to fake roundness. the cylinder thing has a lot of segments this could be cut back and made less round,,

cutting the holes in that thing is pretty wastefull, just texture some black dots on it,

hope this has been helpfull! good luck in the contest!

Any one wanna take a crack at a Red box... all ya need is a CD player and an amplified speaker :P

but nowadays you need a blowtorch and wire cutters... damn you white wire!

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Blue_box (blue boxing for ya)

I say Bring back good old Captain Crunche's Hacking tool broke into the phone system with only a whistle he found in a cereal box... now thats a unique hacking tool :P

Awesome thank you very much for the crits! I had no idea that you can really do so much detail with just texture alone, and that there was so much I could have cut out, Hmm I'll work on it further and definitely keep it in mind ^_^
