Careful with those weapon texturing tutorials. They're used EVERYWHERE and the end result is that there's a sea of people out there who all texture in exactly the same way and it's all extremely formulaic and frankly boring (not to mention static).
My advice would be to largely ignore them and go about it your own way. Read through them, pick up the tips on highlighting edges and how different surfaces behave under lighting conditions, but don't follow them exclusively. Doing it your own way means you have a better understanding of the how and why and then you can end up with flat-out awesome weapon textures
like these rather than the same old shit that everyone else is doing
