I taught myself and some other artists how to use Bodypaint 3d (I think it was the previous version though). I haven't been able to get my hands on the newer version, so I haven't been able to use it in a while. However, I really loved the program. There are some basic things you really need to know before you can use it (mostly in the set up process, which isn't hard if you know what to do). I'm at work right now, but I'll go home and see if I can find a copy of the tutorial I wrote for my fellow students a while back.
A few things I really liked:
- It has a variety of brushes kind of like the ones in photoshop
- you can paint with tileable textures you've created in photoshop
- you can save the texture in psd format and use layers just like in photoshop (of course you can go back and forth between the programs by just opening the texture file)
- And of course you know exactly where you are painting and you can easily eliminate seams.
