I'm guessing most college career centers will be out of touch. Thats why E3 and hundreds of networking/recruitment events exist
I went to one and spoke to the recruitment guy for the studio I would love to work at, and asked him what he wants to see on a showreel. Thats a 5minute conversation that has shaped everything I have done for the last 6 months.
Also spoke to a games recruiter, she sat on the phone with me and went through my resume line by line - basically what I'm saying is the people are out there who will be happy to help you if you approach them at these events
