I'm a 2D artist

I'm a 2d artist (abstract) looking to use my art as textures, some are military camouflage most are suitable as clothing. wallpaper etc. I don't do realistic textures..yet..that will wait until I get a decent camera.

I have some experience with Photoshop, I own PS 7, but haven't tried to create purpose made textures in it. I've used my art as textures in vw's like Second Life on 3D items like pottery and glassware that I created. Results were good, I often show my 2D art hanging on the wall with 3D items decorated with it right in front of it. Sometimes the effects attract people wondering how it's done.

Is there a best way to create textures? what sizes are best, in pixels, for 'stock' textures? any good books aimed at games/animators using 2D art to textures 3D items?
