Yes and yes... however if you're still learning the basics, I wouldn't worry about it. It's much more important to learn the core skills first and then take on the more advanced stuff.
Kinda like learning to paint with oils for the first time while doing still life for the first time. You'd do better to learn still life using a medium you're used to, and learn oils using a subject you're used to, then combine the two.
