I love the theme, even though I'm going to get smacked around (especially when it comes to texturing and rendering) I'm actually still going to try. I think my concept is pretty solid (not great, but solid - though there is room for improvement since I've only begun designing one ship) and the model should be pretty good.

My Si-Fi heart is pumping, but my abilities hold me back :P

EDIT:

Might be a dumb question, but are you allowed to make 2D scenery in photoshop (for background for the beauty render)
i.e. planets, starts, nebula, whatever...
