The Land of Unfinished Art and Broken Promises.

So as most of us know my 3D work is pretty unimpressive, and my ability to try and do 3D work is even worse.

So it's oblivious in the fact this will be my dumping station of textures and concept work, and a few models that I find the time to get around to.

Of course to keep the title true to '3D sketchbook' I will only post concept art that I myself, or my buddy Steve will model, or unless the concept is just a-fvcking-mazing, but don't worry about that, that hasn't happened for many moons.

Again as most of us know, I love to run my mouth, I actually can't stop, so along with each concept/model/inspiration I post will be a lovely artist statement to stand with it, because I love talking about process into progress.

So please enjoy what I've posted, or don't, it's your call, because you have jumped into the land of unfinished art and broken promises.

Mask I plan to build:

Random Wyrm:

Pre-Textured scene, (current textures are just textures I photoed with no wrapping or nuthin, just playing with light and model; wires and clay render soon to come)

Orc:

More to come I suppose, take care.

Hey man, nice to see you make a sketchbook as well. It's not a problem if you want to post 2d stuff only, the forum title isn't really accurate on that

your 2D skills are really looking alright, nice work. But like you mentioned yourself, the 3D, hmm...

I wonder, why are you working on this kind of large projects. A street with water, houses, a boat, that's some serious business if you want to get that right. For practice, I'd really suggest you work on smaller projects. They're easier, done quicker so you can move on to the next one, etc...

just a thought...

Your thead title made me LOL. you have some nice drawings skills, keep pushing your drawings as well as learning the modeling/technical side. The ability to draw and paint well goes hand in hand with make appealing game-art.

Jearbear - Sorry for the nickname, I have always called you this in secretness. I pondered the idea of making a sketchbook for many days now, and so I did, yay for accomplishments being achieved.

TBH, it's always the simple things that plague me, thanks for bringing that up(smaller projects), because when it comes to modeling, it's on my own freewill (God help anyone that wants me to model for their project) and I usually get all these crazy ideas gaumed up in my head, some of them are more advanced than for me.

Bun - Thinking of the title I lol'd myself. Digital art is complicated for me, because I come from a background in the land of prismacolor markers, ink and acrylic paint, seriously we didn't realize there were computers here in Kentucky 'til at least 2004 when our phone company (which we got in 2001) asked us if we wanted dial up, and we were like 'For what'?

Jokes, jokes. But I do live in place where technology is the devil.

Back to the conversation; I know a bit, working with a few game teams and mod teams I've come to terms with creating what's capable with normal, bump and parallax mapping, what can get a good effect with a low poly model. I've worked with plenty modelers and done many of maps in my day, it's just the whole process of pushing poly's that gets me.

Edit -- I should say I know enough that when I'm making concept art to not create some insane idea with complex geometry, I know what needs to be functional with the modeler and what tools he's using.

Jearbear wtf

Is it just me, or are the legs of your elf a bit short? could be the catchy perspective though...

Ha, I believe they are a bit short, but the large head throws it all off anyways.

Little update here, these were box extruded ideas for a sculpture park for my fine arts class (in which the acronym is FNA, which now takes on a whole new meaning) pretty basic clay renders.

I didn't want to post this in the low poly section since it isn't required in the competition, but I wanted to animate my piece for Competition #16, so I did:

YouTube - The Meanie Weanie
