Try a skylight, it looks very similar to a skylight and an omni with raytraced shadows turned on.

A shot in the dark here (because its dependant on the scene) but a skylight intensity of around 0,7ish and an omni around 0,3-5.. play with the distance and values, there are no formulas for this stuff.

I'll update textured versions of the work above as they become available. In the meantime I'm going to be forging ahead with other things which I'll be texturing myself, as seen below. It's my goal to get as close as I can to the quality of the slurp machine posted above.

Not based on any real tv, just a basic mock-up of the era.

Another wip, now I've got to figure out how to texture this keyboard. Also a simple recliner.

I'm going to be making a lot of these kinds of backgrounds over the next couple of weeks, so I've decided to try to get them all in a decent looking beta version before I finish polishing any of them off. This way I can a feel for the overall flow of them before I get nitpicky. Don't let that stop you from making suggestions though, I'm keeping a running list of things to do for when I come back to it.

A few changes put off till later

The completely inappropriate fish painting will likely be swapped out for something more old-lady-like.

A stool or something will be added to provide a place to sit for the computer. I should have already done this, but I've yet to decide on exactly what kind of seating to use.

The mirror above the dresser will have a reflection.

The keyboard will have keys added.

Maybe I'll think of something else to put on the dresser to create a fuller look.

A light fixture will be added to the ceiling. Probably something very simple.

to make the keyboard make the keys as meshes (cloning them over) and have text splines on them. then render to texture!

Been too long. Trying my hand at something not real-time, very basic.

your models are looking good but they seem like just a first pass for textures. Some wear and tear would really make them pop and look more real. Dont go overboard but dont leave them the way they are. To clean and neat to be real.
