What do you guys think, or do you know what the industry thinks about offering an 'offline version' of your portfolio when people are on there?

While I've been working on my own i thought it'd be a handy option if a prospective employer was able to download it to his/her desktop for future reference, or to offer additional content which would slow the web site down when running on the fly (ie massively high res/detailed image files, obj's of models etc)

but then at the same time i'm thinking, is it really worth their time to download such a thing if they're on there anyway? And what if they download it and only use that as a reference to your work, thus never seeing any updated images and content?

Do you think its a decent option to give people, or could it be more damaging in the long run?
The offline portfolio most employers seem to want is a demo reel
